Senior Lawyer

Our client is a senior M&A partner at a major European law firm. When he started a coaching programme with The Values Partnership, he had just agreed to go back to his firm to take a senior M&A role, having resigned some months before feeling that he had little left to contribute. This was a hard decision because of his many years with the firm, including a stint as managing partner. For many reasons, however, he felt it was the right decision to return, but he was not looking forward at all to going back to the same situation that had made him so unhappy before.

He had this to say about the coaching support, "I perceived myself to be in a dead end street. The coaching helped me identify some possible directions and choose the ones that were best for me. The best result is that I can easily say that I am back at the firm wholeheartedly, which I was not happy to do before.

"I am living from my strengths at work, and as a result I am now comfortable with doing the things I have to do, in my own way. Because I am now conscious of what I’m good at, I can more consciously be that. I have 'institutionalised’ these strengths in myself. For example, I love coaching younger professionals. It is important to concentrate on this strength in my career. I can be the 'father' of my juniors.

"Identifying my values was important. By 'framing them' and 'putting them on the wall', my values became my constitution. In the dead of the night I can look at the values I wrote down and think, “Wow that's not bad.”

"The coaching was worth the investment. I like working on an hourly basis – it makes me concentrate."
